Blackburn boss Sam Allardyce has resigned himself to losing Franco Di Santo in January. Di Santo, 20, has impressed since joining Rovers on loan from Chelsea last month. Allardyce had hoped to extend Di Santo’s loan but expects Chelsea to recall him in January after the London club were hit with a transfer ban. He said: “Franco has contributed a huge amount. He could have gone on loan to a club in Europe but Chelsea wanted to find out whether he is good enough for the Premier League.”

Nigel Reo-Coker will be offered an escape route out of his Aston Villa nightmare by Fulham. Fulham boss Roy Hodgson is considering a £3m move for the Villa midfielder in the January transfer window. Reo-Coker is desperate to quit Villa Park after being frozen out, following his training ground bust-up with boss Martin O’Neill. Villa are believed to be ready to lower their asking price for the 25-year-old, after demanding around £7m for him from Spurs in the summer.

Cardiff boss Dave Jones is ready to hijack Coventry’s bid to sign Wolves striker Sam Vokes. And Jones is now battling to capitalise on the delay and sign the 19-year-old to boost his Bluebirds’ firepower.

Wigan boss Roberto Martinez is keeping an eye on Scunthorpe United’s highly-rated number one Joe Murphy. Martinez is on the look-out for cover and competition for Chris Kirkland and his spies have been looking at former West Brom and Tranmere starlet Murphy. The Latics are desperate to improve that department but have turned down the chance to pick up free agent Jurgen Macho after a trial. Martinez is reviewing the futures of veteran Mike Pollitt and Richard Kingson and is keen to recruit a better second string at the DW Stadium.

Sunderland boss Steve Bruce is compiling a dossier on Tottenham’s Scotland right back Alan Hutton as he prepares to wheel and deal in the next window. Bruce is sending his spies to check on Hutton’s form as he looks for improvements throughout his team – and knowing that Spurs could be prepared to sell. Hutton is having one of his better, injury-free runs since he went to White Hart Lane, but Harry Redknapp may be open to selling him with Kyle Naughton coming through – and Kyle Walker to follow from Sheffield United. Bruce also knows he has a couple of players that Tottenham fancy and may move for in the January window, so he is keeping on top of Hutton’s performances in the next couple of months.

Roberto Martinez will decide today whether to offer a contract to Cameroon midfielder Modeste M’Bami. The ex-Marseille man, 26, has impressed on trial with Wigan since the start of the season. And Latics boss Martinez planned to make up his mind in last night’s reserve game with Blackburn. He hopes to have the situation finalised by the time Chelsea travel to Lancashire on Saturday. Martinez said: “Modeste has been working hard to get his fitness where it should be. Now we can give him a proper assessment.”

Bolton boss Gary Megson insists he has no plans to cash in on goal-shy record signing Johan Elmander. The Swedish forward ended a nine-month goal drought when he scored against West Ham on Tuesday. The arrival of Croatian forward Ivan Klasnic earlier this month placed a question mark over Elmander’s future, but Megson is happy to persevere. The Bolton chief said: “I am not ]ready to give up on Johan and nobody at this club is either. I really hope that goal relaxes him because the arrival of Ivan Klasnic will put him and Kevin Davies under pressure.”

Juventus are monitoring Gary Cahill as a possible long-term replacement for Fabio Cannavaro after getting a glowing reference from Fabio Capello. And Milan are also tracking the performances of the Bolton centre-back. The former U21 international, now 23, was called up to the full England squad for the World Cup qualifier against Kazakhstan in June after the withdrawal of Rio Ferdinand. Bolton slapped a £20m price tag on Cahill earlier this year after interest from Arsenal. He moved to the Reebok Stadium from Aston Villa in January 2008 for £5m.
