Bruce Makes SOS Call To Neill

Steve Bruce will offer Lucas Neill £40,000 a week to solve Sunderland's injury crisis. The Black Cats boss has resurrected his interest after the Aussie full-back's move to Atletico Madrid hit the rocks. Bruce has already shelled out more than £30m on seven new recruits. But he will ask billionaire backer Ellis Short to dip into his pocket again to fund an 18-month deal worth £3m to free agent Neill, 31.

Boro Line Up Huth Replacement

Blackburn defender Zurab Khizanishvili is ready to sign for Gareth Southgate's promotion-seeking Middlesbrough on loan when the Football League window re-opens today. The Georgian international can leave Ewood Park and is available after failing to find a new home before the deadline closed last week. Boro have opened talks to take on Khizanishvili if they pay his bumper wages, and Southgate is set to do business after pulling back from a move for Preston's Republic of Ireland defender Sean St.Ledger.

Hull Move For City's Forgotten Man

Hull boss Phil Brown is ready to sign Manchester City 'cult hero' Glauber Berti. The Brazilian defender eventually made an appearance as a sub at City in the final game of last season after a year at the club. Glauber, capped once by Brazil, was dubbed the 'Invisible Man' because he was overlooked by Mark Hughes after signing on a free from German side Nuremburg. Now he could sign a one-year contract at the KC Stadium as he is a free agent.
