Allardyce Lines Up Double Striker Swoop

Sam Allardyce has urged Blackburn to tie up an £11million double swoop for strikers Benjani and Nikola Kalinic. Big Sam is desperate to boost his attack force after selling Roque Santa Cruz to Manchester City for £17.5m. City reject Benjani, 30, would cost Rovers £5m. And Croat Kalinic, 21, is expected to make a £6m move from Hajduk Split. Boss Allardyce said: "I hope it will get done by, at the latest, the middle of next week. Too much time has gone by already."

O'Neill In The Hunt For Galactico

Aston Villa, who beat Juventus in a penalty shootout to win the Peace Cup in Seville on Sunday night, want to snatch Real Madrid's £16m-rated Dutch playmaker Wesley Sneijder from Inter Milan's grasp. Villa boss Martin O'Neill is also still interested in Portsmouth defender Sylvain Distin but the reluctance of the South Coast club to reduce their £4.5million fee could scupper the deal. O'Neill may instead offer a short-term deal to ex-Pompey defender Sol Campbell who is now a free agent.

Redknapp Turns To New Diarra

Tottenham Hotspur have held talks with Moussa Sissoko’s advisers after signing Patrick Vieira from Inter Milan became increasingly unlikely. Sissoko, a France Under-21 midfield player, would not come cheap - Toulouse are likely to demand in excess of £12 million after the 19-year-old was compared with Mahamadou Diarra, the Real Madrid defensive midfield player.

James Rejects Spurs Move

David James has snubbed Spurs boss Harry Redknapp's interest by pledging his future to ailing Portsmouth. James, 39, featured in a friendly against Portugal's Guimaraes on Friday night. The England keeper said: "If I wasn't going to stay, I wouldn't have played. Moving clubs is not an issue for me." Pompey boss Paul Hart will step up his bid to sign Mark Viduka and Amr Zaki after being left with only 12 fit outfield players following the tour of Portugal.
