FOOTBALL TRANSFER NEWS

Black Cats Chase a Blue Bird

Cardiff City's resolve to hang onto their stars this summer is set to be tested by Sunderland, who are ready to slap in a £3m bid for Roger Johnson. The star centre-back, named in the PFA's Championship team of the year, has been watched several times by Sunderland scouts in recent weeks. Sunderland manager Ricky Sbragia believes Johnson can bolster his defence and may make a summer swoop, whether his team are in the Premier League or the Championship. Johnson's stock has soared since City signed him for just £275,000 from Wycombe and he is one of the most sought after defenders outside the top flight.

Latics In The Hunt For Rams Winger

Wigan Athletic have set their sights on capturing Derby County's Kris Commons at the end of the season, according to the Daily Mirror. However, it is thought that the Rams are eager to hold on to one of their most prized assets in an attempt to win promotion from the Championship next year and have slapped a £5million price-tag on his head. The Mansfield-born winger, who has won four full caps for Scotland since 2008, only moved to Pride Park last summer in a controversial free transfer from East Midlands rivals Nottingham Forest.
