FOOTBALL TRANSFER NEWS

Cameroon international Stephane M'Bia is still hopeful that he can move to England in the future. The Rennes midfielder's mooted move to the Premier League never materialised in the summer transfer window, but he has now insisted: "Everyone knows there are clubs after me. Arsenal made contact in the final hours of the last transfer window, but Rennes did not want to let me go. Rennes are looking to improve my pay, but everyone knows I want to move to the Premier League to improve myself and play in the biggest league in the world."

Birmingham City may make a move for former Aston Villa and Reading defender Ulises De La Cruz. The 34-year-old was on loan at the Championship side last week, and Alex McLiesh has revealed: "I'd like to bolster the squad and I'm still looking at bringing in a player or two right now. Rather than rush into anything I think we can definitely use the loan system." How likely do you think this story is?

Manchester City will launch a bid to sign Germany striker Lukas Podolski when the transfer window re-opens in January. The Bayern Munich man has struggled to settle with his club since moving there in 2006, and recently admitted: "I would be a bad footballer if I contented myself by sitting on the bench. I could tolerate it if it was a case of two or three weeks, but there comes a point when one has to draw the line and say: 'This is too much! I'm not making any progress here'."

Xabi Alsono's Liverpool future is still in doubt after his agent revealed that the Spain international may leave the club in the January transfer window. The 26-year-old was linked with a move to Arsenal in the summer, and now Inaki Ibanez has explained: "We will see what happens in January. At the moment Xabi is concentrating on playing well for Liverpool. No agreement was reached to sell him, so mentally he is a Liverpool player. January is a long time away."
