Birmingham City signed Wilson Palacios on loan in August 2007.

The 23-year-old joined from Olimpia initially until the end of the year, with the option of a permanent deal if he impresses at St Andrew's.

He had been tracked by Arsenal, having won more than 40 caps for his country to date.

However, his time at Birmingham was short due to family issues, and in January 2008 he joined Wigan Athletic. He quickly impressed under Steve Bruce a second time and became a key figure in the Latics side.

A year later he was on the move again, joining Tottenham Hotspur for £14m.
