Luka Modric

Luka Modric started playing football in war-torn Croatia in the early 1990s, and showed enough potential as a teenager to sign up for Dinamo Zagreb in 2002.

He was sent out on loan to Bosnian side Zrinjski Mostar, and demonstrated why he was so highly thought of back home by winning the Bosnian Player Of The Year award. A year later he went on loan to Inter Zapresic in Croatia.

2006/07 was a successful season for Modric as he helped Dinamo win the league and won himself the Prva HNL Player of the Year award. He also made the breakthrough to the Croatian national team, quickly becoming a key figure.

In April 2008, it was announced that he would join Tottenham Hotspur for a fee of £16.5m in the summer and, after an impressive campaign in Euro 2008, he made the switch to White Hart Lane.
