Tottenham Hotspur completed the signing of Gilberto after a lengthy pursuit of the Brazilian wing-back in January 2008.

Spurs had been linked with a move for the 31-year-old defender for numerous weeks, but the deal appeared to have fallen through at the last minute.

Gilberto's club side Hertha Berlin claimed the north London outfit had pulled the plug on the deal due to a problem with the player's second medical.

However, Spurs confirmed the transfer had gone through on the final day of the Januayr 2008 transfer window.
