In January 2007 Tottenham Hotspur agreed a deal with French side Lens to bring teenage midfielder Adel Taarabt to White Hart Lane on loan.

The 17-year-old was seen as a promising prospect for the future having appeared twice in his first half-season at White Hart Lane. The loan deal was made permanent in June 2007, but he struggled to make much of an immediate impact.

In 2008/09, he was initially not even given a squad number by Juande Ramos, and looked like his Spurs days were coming to an end, but Harry Redknapp restored him to the first team squad when he took over from Ramos.
