Trinidad international Carlos Edwards signed for Sunderland in 2007.
The midfielder began his career in 1999 with Defence Force in his home country, before moving to Wrexham in the year 2000.
In five seasons with the Welsh club he scored 23 goals in 165 games, winning the Football League Trophy along the way.
He joined Luton Town on a Bosman in 2005 and was so impressive for the Hatters that he became an immediate crowd favourite and was selected for the Trinidadian team which participated in the 2006 World Cup.
He moved to Sunderland in January 2007 for a fee of £1.5million and once again proved his worth, scoring five times in just fourteen games.
He will have to be at top form in 2007/08 though if Sunderland are to remain a top flight side in what is sure to be a testing season.
