Former Arsenal striker Anthony Stokes signed for Sunderland having spent the first half of the 2006/07 season on loan at Falkirk.

He was a huge hit with the Scottish side, having scored 16 goals in 18 league and cup appearances.

This fine form attracted the attentions of several big name clubs including Celtic.

However, he ultimately opted to sign for Sunderland, citing the opportunity to play under Roy Keane as a major motivation.

He could be a vitally important player for Sunderland as they bid to avoid relegation in 2007/08.
