THE ESSENTIAL

Celtic Celtic are to erect a statue in memory of their legendary boss Jock Stein to mark the 25th anniversary of his death, the club have announced.

Heart of Midlothian Hearts trio Andrew Driver, Craig Thomson and Scott Robinson have moved a step closer to making comebacks from their knee injuries.

Rangers Rangers boss Walter Smith has no idea what his future holds beyond the summer - but will not retire before he's ready just to finish on a high.

Celtic Morten Rasmussen insists he is content to be in the shadow of Celtic team-mate Robbie Keane, who he describes as "a top-class player".

Celtic Celtic have lost their appeal against Scott Brown's dismissal during the 1-0 Old Firm derby defeat to Rangers.

Dundee United Paul Dixon has signed a new two-year deal with Dundee United which keeps him at Tannadice until the end of May 2012.

Heart of Midlothian Hearts boss Jim Jefferies has welcomed the news that the Scottish Premier League are considering expanding the top flight to 16 teams.

Hamilton West Brom manager Roberto Di Matteo has confirmed he is still keeping tabs on Hamilton's highly-rated midfielder James McArthur.

Celtic Tony Mowbray says Celtic must concentrate on their own play and not Rangers. The Bhoys cut their Glasgow rivals' lead at the top of the SPL to eight points after beating Hearts 2-0, but Mowbray said: "Every point dropped by Rangers is important as we try to chip away at their lead, but we have to look after our own game."

Rangers Rangers manager Walter Smith was relieved to win a point from a tough encounter with Motherwell. Kris Boyd's 80th minute strike forced a 1-1 draw for the visitors and Smith said: "We were poor in the first half. In the second 45 minutes, we picked up and were far better. Motherwell started very brightly. We knew that would happen and we didn't have any great reaction to that in the first 45 minutes. After the first-half performance, it was good to get a point."

Rangers Rangers manager Walter Smith hailed Steven Davis after the midfielder scored the opening goal in the 2-0 Scottish League Cup semi-final victory over St Johnstone. "He's been playing extremely well," Smith said. "It is asking a lot of him, but every game we have we are relying a lot on his energy. I don't know what he's done, but he's been adding goals to his performances at the present moment, which obviously we're delighted with."

Celtic Robbie Keane's Celtic debut ended in defeat as the Bhoys were beaten 1-0 at Kilmarnock. Chris Maguire's goal early in the second half was enough to separate the teams.

Heart of Midlothian Izale McLeod has warned Csaba Laszlo he is not prepared to wait for the Hearts boss to make his mind up about a loan deal.

Dundee United Bohemians have warned Dundee United that they will have to match their substantial valuation of manager Pat Fenlon.

Aberdeen Aberdeen manager Mark McGhee has revealed he is already looking at making Paul Marshall's loan move at Pittodrie permanent.
