Ibrahima Sonko

Senegalese defender Ibrahima Sonko joined Reading in the summer of 2004 on a Bosman from Brentford and has become an important member of the Royals' squad ever since.

His professional career began at St Etienne but, after spending two years in the academy there, he moved onto Grenoble where he stayed until 2002, despite some interest from Portsmouth.

At Brentford he immediately became a regular, scoring six times in his first season and playing the majority of the games in the second.

On such good form and with his contract up, it was hardly surprising when he decided to leave the Bees, taking the step up a division and signing a deal with Reading that will keep him at the club until summer 2008.

He is a fan favourite, even having the song Sonko Is Superman created in his honour, and continued his excellent form in 2006/07 as he scored one goal in 23 starts.
