Sean Davis

Lambeth-born Sean Davis is a product of The Craven Cottage youth system and was described by former Fulham and England boss Kevin Keegan as being "as good as anyone I've seen at his age."

He made his first-team debut aged just 17 years and 25 days. A strong tackling, solid midfielder who can pass and keep the ball with a maturity well beyond his years, Sean has progressed even further under the guidance of Jean Tigana and Christian Damiano and is now a first team regular. He can now boast to have played for Fulham in all four League Divisions.

After an exciting 2002/03 campaign in which he firmly established his position in the starting line up Davis was called up to be part of the England squad that faced Australia. He had played over 100 games for the Cottagers and looked to be wanting a move away from London.

He attracted interest from Everton during that season who made a couple of unsuccessful bids during the close season. Davis then handed in a transfer request "citing his ambition to further his career". Middlesbrough joined the race for the young man's signature with the club saying they would only let the interested parties talk to the player when they had found a suitable replacement.

This transfer saga rumbled on for most of the summer, and the striker looked to be heading for Merseyside, until David Moyes pulled out of the deal when he realised the player would not pass a medical before the August transfer deadline because of a knee injury.

Davis went on to have one of his best seasons ever, working his way back into the team around Novemember 2003, scoring six goals from midfield in 30 appearances, before deciding on a move north of the river to Tottenham Hotspur.

His first season, however, was not as successful. After he suffered a knee injury in November, he did not play again until mid-March. All in all he made only 16 appearances.

Injuries were less of a problem in the 2005/06, but only because he never got close enough to the pitch to get injured, as he found plenty of new faces ahead of him in Martin Jol's plans.

It was no surprise then when he left to join Portsmouth in January 2006. He has since gone on to become an important member of Harry Redknapp's side.
