In July 2005 Newcastle United completed the signing of Turkey international midfielder Emre Belozoglu from Internazionale, for a fee reported to be around the £4million mark.

Emre began his career with Galatasaray and netted 13 times in 106 Turkish league games, before joining Inter in 2001 and going to score three goals in 79 Serie A matches.

He has also won 38 international caps and was a member of the Turkey team that finished third at the 2002 World Cup finals.

His first season with the Magpies proved to be a big success. He played 24 times and scored twice and continued this form in the 06/07 season, despite some controversey over alleged racist comments to opposition players.
