While Manchester United's signing of Nani from Portuguese side Sporting was widely predicated their deal to bring Brazilian Anderson from Porto was a widespread surprise outside the club.
However, the attacking midfielder has long been a wanted man in European football with Chelsea and Milan among those keen on the player. Compared by some to Ronaldinho, Anderson is likely to be a replacement for Paul Scholes in the long-term.
Anderson had already made the full Brazilian squad before his move to Old Trafford and, while he's certainly not the finished article just yet, he proved he has natural skill in his first season with the club and is certainly a promising prospect for the future.
Anderson successfully converted United's sixth penalty in the shootout victory over Chelsea in the 2008 Champions League Final. He repeated the feat in the 2009 Carling Cup Final against Tottenham Hotspur, but 2008/09 was a mixed season for the youngster, not helped by his participation in the Olympics at the start of the campaign.
