While Manchester United's signing of Nani from Portuguese side Sporting was widely predicated their deal to bring Brazilian Anderson from Porto was a widespread surprise outside the club.

However, the attacking midfielder has long been a wanted man in European football with Chelsea and Milan among those keen on the player. Compared by some to Ronaldinho, Anderson is likely to be used sparingly in his first season by United as he recovers from a serious leg injury. Long term Sir Alex will view the 19-year-old as a replacement for Paul Scholes.

Anderson has already made the full Brazilian squad and his pace and vision will bring an extra layer of creativity to the United team. The big question mark will be how he deals with the physical element of the English game, however with the signing of him and Nani it would seem that United's ambitions ultimately lie in Europe over the next few years.
