Argentinean right-sided defender Pablo Zabaleta began his career with San Lorenzo as a defensive midfielder, and joined Spanish side Espanyol in 2005. He captained Argentina's youth side to 2005 FIFA World Youth Championship victory and won the Gold medal with them at the Olympics in 2008.
Having established himself well in Spain, Zabaleta moved to Manchester City in August 2008 for an undisclosed fee. He quickly established himself as a strong figure in the City side, despite a red card in a match against in October 2008. His popularity with the fans was cemented by a spectacular winning goal against Wigan in January 2009.
