Bulgarian winger Martin Petrov came to English football with Manchester City in July 2007 after a career that took him to Switzerland, Germany and Spain. He started out with CSKA Sofia in the mid-90s before moving to Servette in 1998.
In 2001 he joined Vfl Wolfsburg and built himself a big reputation in Germany before moving to Spain with Atletico Madrid in 2005. He spent two years there before joining Manchester City and is an established international with more than 60 caps to his name.
He showed this class in his first season at Eastlands as he quickly proved his quality and became a first-team regular, scoring five goals and giving plenty of teams problems with his pace on the flanks. However, a serious knee injury in October 2008 on international duty meant that 2008/09 was all-but a write-off for him.
