Local lad Jay Spearing joined Liverpool as a youngster and graduated from the academy in 2007, helping the Reds to FA Youth Cup and FA Premier Reserve title successes with energetic displays in midfield.
Spearing made two substitute appearances in the Champions League in 2008/09, including the 4-0 win over Real Madrid. It was announced in March 2009 that he had earned a new contract at Anfield.
