Spanish winger Albert Riera started out at Mallorca, helping them to win the Copa del Rey in 2002/03, but moved on to Bordeaux that summer. After two successful years in France, he returned to Spain with Espanyol in 2005, but struggled to get regular football.
In January 2006 he joined Manchester City on loan, but failed to make a consistent impact at Eastlands and the deal was not made permanent. Over the next couple of seasons, he found his best form at Espanyol and won his first call-up to the Spain squad in 2007.
In September 2008 he left Espanyol to sign for Liverpool, making his debut in a win over Manchester United. His first season at Anfield saw him claim a regular first team place as well as establishing himself in the Spain squad.
