Reds close in on Cavalieri

Liverpool boss Rafael Benitez could be close to signing goalkeeper Diego Cavalieri in a £3million deal from Palmeiras.

The 26-year-old has been granted permission to travel to Merseyside for talks with the Reds, according to his agent Juninho Parmigiani.

The Brazilian keeper has previously been linked with a move to Italy with Internazionale and his arrival would likely lead to the departure of current number two Scott Carson.

The England international spent last season on loan at Aston Villa and has suggested he is looking to leave Anfield in search of regular first-team football.

"Palmeiras' board released Diego to negotiate with Liverpool and we are going to fly to define the last details," claimed Parmigiani.

"We still cannot say that everything is closed because there are some things between Liverpool and Palmeiras and other details in the contract.

"I believe everything is going to be solved this weekend.

"If everything goes as it was agreed, he is going to sign the contract and be introduced."
