Nicky Barmby

Hull City signed hometown boy Nick Barmby from Leeds United in 2004.

When Leeds signed Barmby in the summer of 2002, the Yorkshire club became the player's sixth, in what has been an illustrious career.

The 29 year-old midfielder has also enjoyed wearing the shirts of Hull, Spurs, Middlesbrough, Everton, Liverpool and now Leeds.

The England international has a combined transfer fee total of around £19.75 million and has won 23 caps for his country, scoring 3 goals.

Barmby began his career at Spurs, and his capture represented something of a coup for Terry Venables, with the fee - £2.75 million - being a bargain.

Barmby played some of the best football of his career under the former England coach at Spurs and international level.

As a hugely versatile midfielder, Venables had identified Barmby as the kind of player he needed in the squad to cover all eventualities following the advent of transfer windows.

Earlier in his career, the queue of clubs desperate to sign Barmby as a schoolboy was indicative of his worth and Tottenham fended off Alex Ferguson's overtures to get young Barmby to put pen to paper in February 1991.

Barmby played successfully at both international and European level with England and Everton, and later Liverpool, but he struggled to hit top form while at Leeds between 2002 and 2004.

In February 2004, he moved to Notts Forest to try and get some games under his belt, but played just six games before moving on to hometown club Hull.

He has enjoyed something of a renaissance with the Tigers, helping them gain promotion in 2007/08 and once again producing some impressive performances back in the Premier League in 2008/09.

His goal against Sunderland in December 2008 made him one of only five players to score for six different teams in the Premier League.
