Manchester City boss Stuart Pearce filled his problem left wing position by signing USA international DaMarcus Beasley on a season-long loan from PSV Eindhoven on transfer deadline day August 2006.
The 24-year-old passed a medical to ensure he completed his move just hours before the transfer window closed.
Beasley joined PSV from Chicago Fire in 2004 and has since won two Eredivisie and a Dutch Cup winner's medals, as well as playing in the semi-final of the Champions League.
He made his international debut in 2001 and has been a regular for the USA ever since, winning 57 caps and playing in two World Cups.
In May 2007, Beasley's loan came to an end and was not extended by the then managerless City. He therefore moved on and joined Rangers, this time on a permanent deal, in June 2007, and enjoyed a fantastic first campaign at Ibrox in one of the club's most successful seasons ever.
