Brahim Hemdani

Marseille captain Brahim Hemdani signed a four-year deal at Ibrox in June 2005.

The versatile Algerian was a target for clubs across Europe following the expiry of his contract at Stade Velodrome, but Gers chairman David Murray persuaded him his future lay in Scotland.

The deal represented a successful end to Rangers' 18-month pursuit of the former Cannes and Strasbourg star, who caught Alex McLeish's eye with his display against Newcastle United in the UEFA Cup semi-final in April 2004.

Hamdani struggled with injury during his first season at Ibrox, but found greater success in the first half of the 2006/07 season under the management of Paul Le Guen.

This success continued when Walter Smith took over as boss and so impressive were Hamdani's performances in 2006/07 that he was voted the club's Player of the Year by fans.

He continued this form in 2007/08, a season which saw him make his 100th appearance for the club.
