Paul Hartley

Scottish midfielder Paul Hartley joined boyhood heroes Celtic from Hearts in January 2007 for £1.1m.

"I'm over the moon," he told the Celtic website. "It's a dream come true for a boyhood Celtic supporter like me and I'm glad that I'm finally here. I've come here to win silverware and hopefully I can achieve that."

He began his career at Hamilton Academical before moving south of the border to Millwall in 1996, though he only lasted a year down there before returning to Scotland with Raith Rovers. In 1998 he moved to Hibernian before a loan spell at Greenock Morton and a permanent move to St Johnstone.

In 2003 he joined Hearts and finally began to live up to his potential as a central midfielder and he helped the Edinburgh club start to compete with Rangers and Celtic at the top, as well as winning his first Scotland cap against Italy in March 2005.

His star continued to rise until January 2007 when he was linked with moves to both Rangers and Celtic and eventually chose the Bhoys. He impressed in his first half-season at Celtic Park, helping them to win the title.
