Jan Vennegoor of Hesselink started out at FC Twente and quickly earned a reputation for himself, and not just because of his lengthy name. In 2001 he moved to PSV Eindhoven, where he flourished at first before a poor couple of seasons cost him his first team place and left him in the international wilderness.

He rediscovered his form in 2004/05 and with it came his place in the Holland squad. In the summer of 2006, he left PSV to join Celtic and soon became a favourite with the fans, scoring in his first three games. Injuries hindered his progress slightly, but he still found the net regularly when he played and had a major role in Celtic's title success.
