Youngster Aiden McGeady was described by Martin O'Neill as a player with "enormous potential", after making his breakthrough into the first team towards the end of the 2003/04 season, aged 18. Not only did he score in his first game, but he the Man of the Match for his performance in the 1-1 draw with Hearts.
He is an attack-minded midfielder who likes to operate either in the hole behind the strikers or can play out wide on either wing. He is a product of the Celtic youth academy, and has impressed so much with his handful of appearances that the club offered him a four-year deal in the summer of 2004.
Although born in Glasgow, McGeady has decided to play for the Republic of Ireland, and made his full debut in June 2004, where he came on as a substitute for nine minutes against Jamaica.
The 2004/05 season proved to be the making of young McGeady as he justified O'Neill's faith in him. He scored 5 goals in 37 appearances for the Bhoys, including one in the 6-0 thrashing of Dunfermline.
2005/6 proved another good year for Mcgeady as he went on to make another 24 appearances for the first team, scoring 4 goals. He also added another Ireland cap, against Chile, and looks like he will be a regular fixture for both teams over the coming seasons.
He was certainly a regular for Celtic in 2006/07, helping them to another league and cup double, whilst clocking up more appearances for Ireland as well.
