Paul Stalteri

Tottenham Hotspur completed a deal to sign Werder Bremen's Canadian international right-back Paul Stalteri in May 2005.

The 27-year-old became the third new recruit for Tottenham Hotspur ahead of next season, with Auxerre midfielder Teemu Tainio and Derby County defender Tom Huddlestone already snapped up.

Sporting director Frank Arnesen told the club's official website: "Paul Stalteri is a defender who can play in midfield, so he is a multi-functional player who can play on both sides.

"He has come from a tough environment at Werder Bremen and their players are very well known for their mentality. His biggest success was last year winning the double and he has now had good experience of European football.

"I am delighted to get him. There were a lot of clubs chasing him including some from England. He will be a big plus for the squad."

Stalteri had been with Werder since late in 1997, helping the club to a domestic double last season, while he has won 50 caps for his country to date.

His first season in Spurs colours proved to be a huge success as he scored twice in thirty-five games.

He was on the sidelines for much of the 2006/07 season, but did score a hugely dramatic last minute winner in Tottenham Hotspur's 4-3 win over West Ham in March 2007.

He continued to be a bit-part plays in 2007/08 and, in January 2008, was loaned out to Fulham for the remainder of the season.
