THE ESSENTIAL

Fulham manager Martin Jol has played down speculation linking striker Bobby Zamora with a January move away from Craven Cottage.

Martin Jol has told Bobby Zamora that he needs to score more goals if he is to reach the England squad for the European Championships. The striker is praised for his work as a target man but Jol added: "As a striker, you have to score goals and I hope Bobby can be a bit more productive. We have to believe in ourselves and score goals at the right moments."

Fulham are believed to be monitoring the progress of Hibernian's Scotland Under-21 international Paul Hanlon and Celtic full-back Mark Wilson.

Queens Park Rangers manager Neil Warnock refused to blame his players following their 6-0 drubbing at Fulham."If we had Darren Bent playing for us today, and a few England players, we'd have still been beaten 6-0", said Warnock.

Leeds defender Darren O'Dea and Fulham full-back Stephen Kelly have been brought into the Republic Ireland squad for their trip to Russia.

Fulham left-back Carlos Salcido has left Craven Cottage and signed for Mexican club Tigres on a loan deal for the season. The defender played 23 times for the Cottagers but was unsettled in England.

Fulham have completed the signing of Czech international Marcel Gecov on a two-year contract. The 23-year-old midfielder has joined the club from Slovan Liberec for a fee in the region of £700k.

Leeds winger Max Gradel is set to reject approaches from Fulham and West Ham in order to join French side Lille, and have a crack at the Champions League.

Nottingham Forest are believed to be closing in on the signing of Fulham's Jonathan Greening. The 32-year-old midfielder played at Manchester United whilst Forest gaffer Steve McClaren was there, and will be their second summer signing.

30-year-old, former Liverpool left-back, John Arne-Riise has signed for Fulham on a three-year deal for an undisclosed fee from Italian club Roma.
