English and world football lost a legend when Sir Bobby Robson lost his battle with cancer on July 31. But he left his mark both on football and at every club he played and managed at. Remembered for his time as England manager, amongst others, we take a look at five of his best managerial achievements.

Five of the Best Sir Bobby Robson Achievements

1. Ipswich win UEFA Cup 1981

Robson took over at Ipswich in 1969 and remained as the club's manager for 13 years. He led them to their only FA Cup trophy in 1978, when they defeated Arsenal in the final, and then three years later guided Town to the UEFA Cup - defeating Dutch side AZ Alkmaar 5-4 on aggregate. He also led the club to second place in the Football League in successive seasons before leaving to take the England manager's role. In all, Robson took charge of 709 Ipswich matches, and his achievements with the club were recognised in 2002 when a life-size statue of Robson was unveiled at Ipswich's Portman Road ground.

2. Back to back league titles with Porto

Robson moved to Porto from arch rivals Sporting Lisbon at a time when the club was in a poor state and attendances were below 10,000. With Jose Mourinho appointed as assistant, the club went from strength to strength, beating Lisbon in the Portuguese Cup Final before winning the league title in 1995 and 1996. Robson was remembered fondly at Porto, and become known as "Bobby Five-O" in honour of the number of matches Porto won 5-0 during his spell their. His time was hit by a malignant melanoma which resulted in him missing the start of the 1995-96 season, but he still led the side to the league title.

3. Barcelona Cup Treble

Following his success at Porto, Robson was offered the job at Barcelona. He took Jose Mourinho with him to the Nou Camp as assistant, and despite only spending one season with the club, he left his mark. He signed Brazilian star Ronaldo from former club PSV Eindhoven, and led Barca to a cup treble - winning the Copa del Rey, UEFA Cup Winners Cup and the Spanish Super Cup. Always seen as a short term measure for the Catalan giants, Robson was replaced after just one season by Dutch manager Louis Van Gaal.

4. Back to back Dutch Championships with PSV

After a spell as England manager, where he took his country to the semi final's of the 1990 World Cup, Robson went abroad to manage PSV Eindhoven. He faced the difficulties of managing Brazilian star Romario but led PSV to the Dutch league championship in both 1991 and 1992. Despite this, he left the club in 1992 due to the club's lack of progress in European competition.

5. Sir Bobby Robson Trophy Match

In what was to be Sir Bobby's last public appearance, five days before his death, a trophy match was held as a replay to the famous Italia 90 World cup semi final against West Germany, which England lost on penalties. The game featured players from the original 1990 World Cup squads, other retired England and Newcastle footballers and selected celebrity guests. England won the game 3-2 in front of 33,000 at St James' Park, with England's goals being scored by Les Ferdinand, Alan Thompson and Alan Shearer. The game was held in aid of Robson's cancer charity, the sir Bobby Robson Foundation, raising hundreds of thousands of pounds.
