Marouane Fellaini

Midfielder Marouane Fellaini was born in Belgium to Moroccan parents and played for various clubs at youth level before joining Standard Liege, breaking into the first team in 2006 and establishing himself as a key player in their title-winning run in 2007/08.

In September 2008 he left Liege to join Everton for a club-record fee of £15m. His first season at Goodison Park proved to be a massive success as he produced a string of impressive performances in the heart of the Toffees' midfield.

His combative style of play earned him plenty of detractors (not to mention bookings), but it was crucial to what was one of Everton's most successful seasons in years as they finished fifth in the league and made it to the FA Cup final. His clear dedication to the cause made him popular with fans immediately, as did his unique hairstyle.
