Everton manager David Moyes made FC Porto defender Nuno Valente his seventh signing of the summer in August 2005 as the summer transfer window was about to slam shut

The Toffees boss had been keen to strengthen his defensive options after losing Alessandro Pistone and Gary Naysmith through injury.

The 30-year-old Valente moved to Goodison Park for an undisclosed fee and Moyes was pleased to have snapped up a player of such quality on a three-year contract.

"He has signed for us and we are delighted to have him here," he told Everton's official website.

"We found it difficult in the summer when we were looking for a left-back but we have been able to move quite quickly on this deal."

However, while Valente showed his experience and quality on the occasions he was fit to play for Everton, injuries plagued his first season with the club, although he was able to recover in time to represent his country at the 2006 World Cup finals.

Thing didn't really improve during the 2006/07 season as he started only thirteen matches. He will hope for more success in 07/08.
