THE ESSENTIAL

Landon Donovan has thanked Everton's fans for their support and revealed he expects to return to the club after his loan expires.

David Moyes praised the character of his Everton side after their 2-1 win over Chelsea. Louis Saha scored both goals as the Toffees recovered from their Merseyside derby defeat in style. "It has been a long time coming," Moyes said. "After the weekend defeat to Liverpool I thought that we showed great character. And we did it without two of our important players. I thought that we deserved our victory, which was against one of the top teams in the country."

Leeds United manager Simon Grayson has suggested Jermaine Beckford has agreed a deal to join Everton at the end of the season.

Louis Saha believes Everton could yet claim a European spot this season if they build on their seven-game unbeaten run in the Premier League.

Everton owner Bill Kenwright has re-affirmed his support for boss David Moyes after calling him "the single most important figure at the club".

Tim Cahill has admitted Everton's league position puts them in "a lot of trouble" - but has stressed the Toffees are 'too good' to go down.

Chief executive Robert Elstone admits Everton would consider ground sharing with Liverpool after their plans to move to Kirkby were rejected.

Sylvain Distin maintains injury-hit Everton can do little else but battle on after recording a Premier League victory at West Ham.

David Moyes believes Everton ran out of energy after coming back from two goals down at the Reebok: "It was a long way to come from 2-0 down, but I thought we deserved to be back in it, that we had done enough. But we ran out of steam with about 20 minutes to go. We didn't really have the personnel to make changes, but we're not using that as an excuse. We should never have been 2-0 down, never have got ourselves into that situation."

Everton skipper Phil Neville is closing in on a first-team return at Goodison Park following a knee ligament injury.
