Egyptian international Hossam Ghaly joined Tottenham Hotspur from Dutch side Feyenoord in January 2006. The twenty-four-year-old midfielder signed a four-and-a-half year deal at White Hart Lane on the final day of the winter transfer window.
Ghaly is highly-rated by many in European football and despite Tottenham's apparent strength in midfield, the club's sporting director Damien Comolli was confident Tottenham had improved their side by signing him: "He is a versatile, very physical and technically gifted midfielder who will offer us a number of playing options. He is a terrific addition to the squad."
He failed to make an appearance in the 2005/06 season, but managed 24 starts in 2006/07. However, from the summer of 2007 onwards he was almost constantly linked with moves away from White Hart Lane, though nothing came of these rumours until January 2008 when he moved on loan to Derby County until the end of the 2007/08 season.
