| History:
The Rams were founded by members of the Derbyshire County Cricket Club who wanted something to do during the winter. They played at a ground provided by a local businessman, Sir Frances Ley, who was a baseball fan, and named it after his favourite sport.
Derby County were founder members of the Football League in 1888 but did not manage to lift the Division One title until the 1971-72 season, strangely the players of the winning team found out about their triumph while on holiday in the Scilly Isles.
The early seventies were easily the most successful in Derby's history, winning the Championship twice, and reaching the semi-finals of the European Cup where they lost in a controversial game to Juventus 3-1.
Brian Clough and Peter Taylor were the management team who inspired the glory years for Derby.
Derby moved to a new 30,000 all seater stadium at the beginning of the 1997-98 season, a fantastic stadium worthy of the name Pride Park, and despite getting relegated in 2002, they won promotion back to the top flight under Billy Davies five years later.
