Danny Mills

England right-back Danny Mills signed for Manchester City in 2004 after agreeing an early release from his contract with Leeds United.

Mills spent last season on loan at Middlesbrough after falling out with then Leeds boss Peter Reid and found his career was in limbo when he returned to Elland Road to be told he had no future with the cash-strapped Whites.

Boro decided against offering the 27-year-old a permanent deal because of his salary expectations, while Birmingham City and Newcastle United both elected not to pursue their interest for similar reasons.

Keegan moved quickly to agree terms with Mills and the move was only delayed while the player negotiated the terms of the cancellation of the remaining three years of his Leeds contract.

Mills began his career with Norwich City, before moving on to Charlton Athletic in 1998 and then on to Leeds in a £4million deal a year later, making a total of 240 league appearances.

His first season at the City of Manchester Stadium proved to be a success as he played an integral role in the City defence. He played 35 matches all in all. His form was, however, a little inconsistent at times.

However, controversey soon arose after rumours flew of a training-ground arguement with then-boss Kevin Keegan in September. It was denied by Mills, but he was back in hot water under next boss Stuart Pearce, who placed him on the transfer list after a falling-out in the summer of 2006. Mills had missed much of the 2005/06 season with a broken leg.

In September 2006, he moved on loan to Hull City. When he returned he played only a handful of games and was out on loan again in 2007/08, first at Charlton Athletic and then in January 2008 at Derby County.
