Versatile Serbian defender Branislav Ivanovic joined Chelsea in January 2008 from Lokomotiv Moscow, having previously played for home town side Sremska Mitrovica and OFK Beograd before moving to Russia.

He captained the Serbian under-21 side in the 2006 European Championships and made his full international debut in the same year.

A lack of match fitness meant he failed to play in the 07/08 campaign, but he made in-roads into the team in 2008/09, notably scoring twice in the Champions League quarter-final first leg against Liverpool at Anfield.
