Celtic v Motherwell 08.11.08
The winners from our recent Carling Mates Challenge competition took to the pitch with his mates at the Celtic v Motherwell game, hoping to show their football skills and win some hospitality.
Anthony McCormack brought along his dad, Anthony senior, and his mates Kevin Docherty and Hugh Mullaney to help him in the challenge. Each person had to dribble the ball from the halfway line and try to score against Ryan Marshall, one of the Celtic youth keepers. If they scored, they won their own place at hospitality for a future game. If they missed, they were staying at home. At the end, they could choose to gamble the places they had won with an all-or-nothing final shot at goal.
So how did they do? Anthony had the unenviable task of going first, but the pressure was too much and he didn't manage to hit the target. Next up was his dad. Looking very composed he ran towards the goal, and then paused just before reaching the keeper, chipping the ball up and over his head into the net. Kevin was next, and took things a bit too gingerly, his attempted toe poke aimed right at the goalie making it an easy save. Last up was Hugh who hit a cracker of a shot towards the bottom left corner, but the goalie was too good and fully outstretched he saved it.
With only Anthony Snr going to hospitality, they decided to gamble and let him take the final shot. He followed a similar plan of action to his earlier shot, going right up close to the goalie before taking his shot. It was looking like the trip to hospitality was doomed, but the goalie must have been in a forgiving mood as he miraculously went in the wrong direction, giving Anthony an open goal! Of course he duly obliged, much to the delight of the rest of them, who will be heading to the Carling Suite for some VIP hospitality.
