Steven Thompson

The awkward target man signed from Cardiff in the summer of 2008 and averaged a goal every other game in all competitions. His career began at SPL side Dundee United, where his effective, aggressive style attracted the interest of Glasgow Rangers and earned him his first full International cap.

After signing for the Ibrox giants he continued to score frequently, until sidelined with a serious knee injury. Thompson moved south to Championship big guns Cardiff City in 2006 and formed an effective big man/little man combination with Michael Chopra.

A lack of goals meant Thompson eventually began to slip down the pecking order at Ninian Park though, and he remained on the transfer list for a year before finally signing for the Clarets.
