Clarke Carlisle

The giant centre half is one of the few Burnley players to have Premier League experience, having been an ever-present in Watford's ill-fated 2006/7 campaign.

The much-travelled defender has appeared for six different clubs during a colorful career, including spells with Leeds, QPR and Blackpool.

Though not the quickest, Carlisle was one of the best defenders in the Championship last season, and is the Clarets' uncompromising defensive lynchpin. As well as imposing himself at the back, he also looks to use his considerable size to threaten from set pieces.
