Fulham signed Icelandic international striker Heidar Helguson from Watford for £1.1million on June 27th 2005.
Helguson signed a four-year deal at Craven Cottage having decided he wanted to play in the top flight, after five-and-a-half years with the Hornets, during which time he became a real fans' favourite at Vicarage Road, scoring 64 goals in 199 games.
The Icelander signed for Watford for a club record £1.5million, from Norwegian club Lillestrom, in January 2000, and scored six goals in 16 Premiership appearances for Graham Taylor's side that season, including a debut goal against Liverpool. It was not enough to keep the club up though, and Helguson spent the next five seasons in Division One / The Championship, enduring a difficult time under Gianluca Vialli - who consistently played him out of position, if at all - before enjoying a resurgence during Ray Lewington's tenure.
After a slow start to the 2004/05 season, Helguson scored 20 goals in all competitions, alerting several clubs to his predatory instincts and attracting interest from the likes of Sunderland and Sheffield United.
Although he hit top form in fits and starts, Helguson built up a good partnership up-front with Brian McBride in 2005/06 and scored ten goals, a tally which dropped to five in 20 starts in 06/07.
Helguson therefore moved on in summer 2007 and joined Bolton for an undisclosed fee.
