Gretar Steinsson

Icelandic right-back Gretar Steinsson almost joined Bolton Wanderers in 2002 after undergoing a trial at the Reebok Stadium, but that fell through and he remained at IA Akranes. In 2004 he moved to Young Boys in Switzerland, having already established himself in the Icelandic national team.

The summer of 2007 saw him again linked with a move to the Premier League, this time with Middlesbrough bidding for him before pulling out when they couldn't agree a fee with his current club AZ Alkmaar, but in January 2008 Steinsson finally got his move, signing for Bolton more than five years after his initial trial.

His first half season at Bolton was a successful one and he continued to play an important role in the 2008/09 campaign.
