Polish international Ebi Smolarek grew up in the Netherlands and graduated from the Feyenoord youth system, hitting the headlines in 2002 when he was suspended by UEFA - missing the UEFA Cup Final - for testing positive for cannabis.

Spells at Borussia Dortmund and Racing Santander followed, while he established himself a key figure in the Poland national team, and in August 2008 he joined Bolton Wanderers on a season-long loan deal. He played 12 games in his half season at the Reebok.
