Watford won the race to sign defender Danny Shittu from QPR for an initial fee of £1.6million in August 2006.
The 25-year-old Nigerian had looked set to join West Brom, but the situation changed quickly when Watford offered him the chance to play Premiership football and he put pen to paper on a three-year deal at Vicarage Road.
Hornets boss Adrian Boothroyd told the club's official website: "In Danny we're signing another player who fits the Watford way - hungry to learn, and eager to prove his worth at the very, very top level against the best.
"He is somebody that we have been chasing for some time and I'm pleased that he will now have the chance to fight for a place along with the other excellent centre-halves we have at the club."
The deal includes appearance and success clauses which could see Watford paying out a further £1.4million for Shittu.
Shittu played over 170 times for QPR after signing from Charlton in 2001 and had scored sixteen goals.
He continued his fine form for the Hornets and in the summer of 2008 attracted the attentions of Bolton and Rangers. He opted to stay in England, however, and shunned the Scottish side in favour of Gary Megson's men in August of that year.
His first season at Bolton was somewhat underwhelming, however, as he played just ten games for the Trotters.
