Stephen Kelly

Young defender Stephen Kelly is already a Republic of Ireland under-21 international, and proved to be a hit on his loan spell at Watford.

Kelly was originally loaned out to the Hornets by Spurs early in the 2003/04 season on a short-term basis, but he formed an impressive partnership with Paul Devlin down the right flank and the loan was extended for another month.

He returned to Tottenham Hotspur in December, and made his first team debut against Charlton at White Hart Lane. He went on to enjoy a good run in the first team when he covered for the injured Stephen Carr.

He was rewarded for some great performances with a new contract and a call up to the Republic of Ireland squad for their friendly with the Ukraine.

The 2004/05 season saw Kelly continue his steady ascent up the Spurs ranks. He made 23 appearances and even scored twice for his team as they finished 9th in te Barclays Premiership table. However, he did not figure for the Republic of Ireland.

He continued this fine form in both 2005/06 and 2006/07 and his experience will prove vital for the Blues as they bid to stay in the Premier League in 07/08.
