Gary McSheffrey

Striker Gary McSheffrey signed for Birmingham City in 2006 from Coventry City.

He began his career at the Sky Blues in 1998 and once held the record for the youngest player to have appeared in the Premier League, having starred for Coventry against Aston Villa at the age of 16 years and 198 days on February 27 1999.

However, he struggled to find regular first team football and was loaned out to Stockport in the 2001/02 season.

He returned in 2002, but was once more on loan, this time at Luton in 2003 and 2004.

His form during this period was so good that he attracted the attentions of Birmingham City, with whom he signed in 2006 for a fee of £2.3million.

He scored 13 goals in 40 appearances during his first season with the club and was a major factor in its' promotion to the top flight, however, since then, things haven't been quite so rosy.

He managed just 3 Premier League goals during the 2007/08 campaign, despite starting the majority of the games.

The 2008/09 season has also been a struggle for McSheffrey. Only six league appearances for the Blues yielded no goals and a subsequent loan move to Nottingham Forest was also unsuccessful due to a persistent knee injury.
