Birmingham City manager Steve Bruce made Celta Vigo winger Daniel de Ridder his fifth signing of the summer of 2007 in July of that year.

The 23-year-old Dutchman penned a three-year deal at St Andrew's after the former Ajax youngster's Celta Vigo contract expired.

De Ridder made his Ajax debut in January 2004 and made 30 league appearances for the Amsterdam-based club before moving to Spain two years ago.

He spent most of his time in Spain on the substitute's bench though, starting only ten games in his two seasons with the club.

De Ridder starred for the Netherlands Under-21 team during the 2007 European Championship and helped his team to victory.
