Malaysian-born Shaun Maloney is a product of the Celtic youth system and made his debut for the Hoops in the Old Firm derby in April 2001, shortly after joining the club.
He sustained cruciate knee ligament damage in February 2004 which ruled him out of action until the following February but since then Maloney was a fixture for the whole of 2005/6, making 44 appearances and scoring 16 goals. He also made history by becoming the first player in Scotland to win both the Player of the Year and Young Player of the year awards.
Maloney also made his debut for Scotland in their 1-0 defeat against Belarus, and could well be a fixture for the national team for years to come.
In January 2007 he left Celtic to link up again with Martin O'Neill at Aston Villa for £1m. His first half season at Villa Park was a satisfying one as he made 15 starts and scored one goal.
