Scott Carson

Young Scott Carson was given a dramatic introduction to life in the Barclaycard Premiership when he made his Leeds debut coming on as a substitute after Paul Robinson had been sent off against Middlesbrough in late January 2004.

Unfortunately, there was no fairytale beginning for Carson as his first action was picking the ball out of his net following the penalty Robinson had conceded.

Carson's reputation continued to rise during 2004 and the youngster signed for Liverpool in January 2005, where he formed strong competition with Chris Kirkland for Jerzy Dudek's place as the Anfield Number 1.

Despite only making 5 appearances in the 2004/05 season (one a European baptism of fire in the team's Champions League Quarter-Final First Leg against Juventus) he remains a strong prospect for the future.

The arrival of Jose Reina made it less likely that he will get a first team place at Anfield in the near future, though the 2005/06 season finished on a high when he received a call-up to the England World Cup squad as a replacement for Robert Green.

In August 2006 he left Liverpool to join Charlton Athletic on loan, and he had an excellent season at The Valley even if he couldn't prevent them from being relegated. It had looked like he would stay at Anfield for the 2007/08 season, but in August 2007 he joined Aston Villa on loan for a year.
