Nigel Reo-Coker came through the ranks at Wimbledon, making his debut in April 2002 and becoming a regular in the following season, scoring twice.
After an impressive first half of the 2003/04 season for the troubled Dons, he signed for West Ham. He quickly became a regular member of Alan Pardew's first team and scored three times to help them win promotion in 2004/05 through the play-offs.
He once again shone in 2005/06, scoring five times in thiry-eight games. In fact, so impressive was he that he attracted the attentions of Manchester United and made it onto the stand-by list for the England World Cup squad, although a persisant back problem meant he had to pull out.
He recovered from this in 2006/07 and played 39 games. However, questions over his loyalty to the club dogged him throughout and he handed in a transfer request in May 2007.
It took two months for him to move on, but move on he did as he joined Aston Villa for a fee of £8.5million in July 2007.
